I don't build cars for SEMA, I'm not a master tuner or expert in building carburetors or transmissions and I make a point to let my customers know that I have a specific skill set if the conversation goes down that road. I've been in this life for a long time but I'm not a know it all and I don't try to be a master of all. Just because someone has been working with (x, y, z) a long time as their passion/occupation they shouldn't shut someone down because of the lack of personal experience VS the knowledge they have acquired in their studies. There's nothing wrong with learning as much as you can about your passion and giving advice where it's needed or joining the conversation on a topic that you actually have studied and do know about, I personally don't have a problem with that as long as people don't try to sell themselves as something they're not and/or make an argument about something with a skilled professional who's made it their life's work without first listening to their facts/theories before making an assumption. He's the inverted Scotty Kilmer, who's an actual moron but people listen to him because he has stage presence and sells himself like an experienced authority. He doesn't sell himself or have the on-screen presence a lot of other car YTers have that adds a lot of emotional credibility. His production budget is 0 and he barely edits his videos at all. IMO SM is even more reckless and careless than UTG is and still gets serious power down reliably.Ī big part of it is armchair mechanics who think they know everything, egged on because in the way he acts and behaves himself he comes off more like a bumbling idiot. If you want that kinda sloppy budget driveway engine building for modern engines & technology, go watch Sloppy Mechanics, UTG has essentially said that himself at least once. He gets what he says about modern tech wrong a lot, but that's not what you're watching him for. He is willfully ignorant of modern technology and tuning practices, and he openly admits this often he doesn't want anything to do with fuel injection, but what he does know and works with he knows extremely well. He doesn't know when to shut up when he talks outside his realm of expertise. She tells him he should've gone to AAMCO. He says he needed cash for a new transmission because he couldn't afford it. She's horrified and wants to know why he's resorted to this. It's stripper time at a bachelorette party and the ladies are into it until the sexy fireman flips up his mask to reveal he is the bride's uncle, Billy.
